Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fletcher Pilates?

Ron Fletcher is internationally recognized as one of the few original master teachers of the Pilates method. His most notable contributions include the Fletcher Towelwork®, Fletcher Floorwork®, Fletcher Barrework™ and the Percussive Breath technique. Body Works Pilates is the international headquarters for Fletcher lineage of the Pilates method and the Fletcher Pilates School.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

Pilates is a full-body conditioning program developed by Joseph Pilates, over the course of 4 decades. It incorporates both mat and equipment work and is designed to strengthen core musculature while actively decompressing the body. This dual emphasis results in a longer, leaner, more flexible, better toned and more evenly developed physique.

How is a program designed to fit my needs and goals?

Before your first session, we will meet with you to understand your fitness goals and conduct an introductory postural and movement assessment. We’ll work with you to structure a program based on your physical needs and goals. Based on this information, we’ll help you develop a program to meet your specific needs and goals.

What is a Pilates COREtet?

A COREtet is a semi-private session with 4 individuals working together on the Pilates apparatus. COREtets have the energy of a small group class with the personal attention of a semi-private session. To ensure your safety and maximize benefits, we require that you take a COREtet Prep, or 3 Private Fletcher Pilates sessions.

How many times a week should I practice Pilates?

To gain the full benefits, it is recommended to practice Fletcher Pilates at least 2-3 times/week. This includes private and COREtet sessions, as well as group classes. Again, we will help you design the ideal Pilates program to fit your needs.

How long will it take me to notice changes in my body?

Less time than you might think! In fact, Joseph Pilates claimed, “in 10 sessions you’ll feel a difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see a difference, in 30 sessions you’ll have a new body!” Your dedication to a consistent practice will greatly determine how quickly you’ll notice positive changes in your body.

Will Pilates help me recover from an injury?

We have highly skilled Physical Therapists on staff at the studio who can help guide your rehabilitation process from most orthopedic injuries. By correcting muscular imbalanced and movement patterns, Pilates exercises can be incorporated in this recovery process and to prevent future injuries from occurring. In fact, several of our clients consider Pilates to be Preventative Physical Therapy!

May I continue to use weights and practice sports and other exercise programs?

Yes. In fact the Pilates Movement Principles will enhance virtually any supplemental fitness program or sport you already enjoy.

What should I wear to the studio?

Comfortable, form-fitting clothing is ideal. This enables our teachers to more easily see your body and give you specific cues and corrections. Looser, comfortable workout wear is also acceptable.

Will I gain strength and flexibility?

Yes! Improving both strength and flexibility is one of the principle benefits of a consistent Fletcher Pilates program.

Will I lose weight?

Fletcher pilates® will balance your body – building strength where you are weak, flexibility where you are tight and stability in your core musculature. A consistent program (2-3 sessions per week) will significantly improve posture and alignment, enhancing stamina, coordination, strength and flexibility.

What else is offered at the studio?

In addition to Private and COREtet Fletcher Pilates sessions, we offer a full range of group movement classes, an online class library, Physical Therapy, therapeutic massage, reflexology and Pilates Teacher Training and continuing education.
